A campaign to secure the passage of a high tax on sin products such as tobacco
What is the Bawas Bisyo Campaign?
Since 2012, sin taxes have proven to be effective in discouraging the consumption of tobacco products, which pose significant health risks. The reform has also augmented the budget for health in the country, greatly increasing the number of beneficiaries of the country’s social health insurance program.
The campaign aims to ensure the passage of legislation that will:
- Implement high taxes on traditional cigarettes and novel products that will protect the health of Filipinos by discouraging consumption
- Raise funds for the implementation of the Universal Health Care Law
